Frequently asked questions.
Answers about Blacktide International’s web design, custom software, branding, SEO and automation services — including project planning, client fit and Harbor’s vacation rental solutions for the United States and Europe.
Who we do not work with.
Blacktide International does not work with trades or e-commerce brands. Our focus is real estate, vacation rentals, hospitality, dentistry, aesthetics and healthcare.
The studio & client fit
Who we are, where we work and whether we are the right partner.
Blacktide International is a Glasgow-based web design, software development and branding studio. Our services also include marketing and growth, AI and automation, and strategy and advisory. We bring strategy, design and engineering together for businesses across the UK and worldwide.
Blacktide International is based in Glasgow, Scotland. We work with businesses locally, across the UK and internationally; you do not need to be based in Glasgow to discuss a project with the studio.
Yes. Blacktide works with international businesses as well as UK clients. Harbor, our vacation rental division, specifically serves property managers across the United States and Europe with direct-booking websites, connected software and guest automation.
Our published industry focus covers real estate, vacation rental management, hospitality, dentistry, aesthetics and healthcare. We build websites, software, brand identities and connected workflows around the needs of these sectors. If your business sits outside these areas, share your brief so we can assess the fit.
Blacktide International does not work with trades or e-commerce brands. These sectors are outside our client focus. Our services are directed towards the businesses and industries described on this website.
No. Blacktide International does not work with trades businesses. This client-fit policy applies to website projects as well as our other services.
No. Blacktide International does not work with e-commerce brands or take on online retail store projects. Direct booking for accommodation and business software are distinct from e-commerce brand engagements.
Yes. Strategy, brand, web, software, growth and automation are available through the same studio. An engagement can combine services when the scope calls for them; the proposal sets out which work is included.
Projects, pricing & delivery
A clear starting point before you commit to a project.
Tell us about your business, the work you need and the outcome you want through the project inquiry form. Include your existing website, relevant systems, budget range and any deadline. We use that information to discuss the brief and define a suitable scope.
Projects are scoped individually. Website, software and branding work receives a quote based on the agreed requirements; marketing can be structured as a monthly engagement, and advisory can be scoped as a sprint, review or ongoing arrangement. There is no universal project price.
Most website projects are planned over six to eight weeks from kick-off to launch. Your actual schedule is agreed after discovery and depends on the scope, integrations, content and review process. More complex web applications require their own delivery plan.
A typical brand identity engagement runs around six weeks from immersion to rollout. Software is planned around discovery, architecture and iterative delivery rather than a single standard duration. The project roadmap sets out the relevant stages and timing.
Discovery establishes your audience, goals, requirements, constraints and success measures. For websites, that includes the sitemap and messaging; for software, it includes workflows, integration requirements and technical risks. The findings guide the proposal, design and delivery roadmap.
Yes. Website work includes design and prototypes before development is complete. Software is delivered in iterative cycles with demos and a staging environment. Reviews help validate the direction and identify issues before production release.
Share your objectives, current website or product, audience, brand assets, content and the systems you use. Tell us about stakeholders, operational constraints and deadlines. Discovery identifies the additional material required for your particular project.
Web design & development
Custom websites built around your brand, content and customer journey.
We build custom marketing websites, flagship brand websites, campaign landing pages and web applications. That includes customer portals and booking experiences for our focus industries. We do not build online retail stores for e-commerce brands or websites for trades businesses.
Blacktide’s website service focuses on custom design and engineering rather than template-based builds. The visual direction, content structure and interactions are developed around the business and the agreed brief.
Yes. Responsive design is part of the website deliverable. Layouts, navigation and interactions are designed and checked across device sizes so customers can use the site on phones, tablets and desktop screens.
Yes. Our website service includes a content management system, training and documentation so your team can manage the agreed content areas. The editing requirements and content structure are established during the project.
Yes. We plan integrations around the tools your business already uses, including booking platforms, property systems and CRMs. The supported functionality depends on the third-party platform’s available APIs, access and integration requirements.
Yes. Technical SEO is part of our website service, including site architecture, performance, structured data and analytics instrumentation. These foundations support discoverability but do not guarantee search rankings or replace ongoing content and marketing work.
We can assess existing websites through our growth and advisory services. We review the foundations and recommend improvements or a rebuild based on what is actually limiting the site. The appropriate approach depends on its technology, content and business requirements.
Custom software & integrations
Products and operational systems designed for how your business works.
Blacktide develops SaaS platforms, web applications, internal business tools, operational dashboards, mobile apps and API integrations. We scope each system around your workflows, users and the outcomes the software needs to support.
Yes. We can begin with a minimum viable product or focused prototype. The aim is to prove the highest-value or highest-risk parts early, validate the direction and use that evidence to plan further development.
Yes. Our software service includes API integration, webhooks and data synchronisation. Discovery identifies the systems involved, access requirements and platform limitations before the integration work is scoped.
Blacktide’s custom software service is built around client ownership of the code and intellectual property. The deliverables include source code and documentation. Third-party services and libraries retain their own licences and terms, which need to be considered within the project.
Testing, security reviews, load testing and monitoring form part of our software delivery approach. Requirements such as roles, permissions, sensitive data and reliability are considered during architecture and discovery. No software should be described as risk-free.
Yes. Mobile applications are part of Blacktide’s software service, including iOS and Android delivery, offline support and push notifications where required. The feature set and release process are agreed in the project scope.
Brand strategy & identity
A connected identity across your website, product and communications.
Our brand service covers a logo suite, typography, colour, brand guidelines and a design system, with templates and assets defined in the scope. Verbal identity, messaging and art direction can also form part of an engagement.
Yes. We work on new identities and rebrands. Discovery reviews what is already recognised and what is holding the brand back, so the new direction can retain useful equity rather than change everything without a reason.
Yes. Brand strategy, identity, website design and engineering sit within the same studio. Delivering them together helps align the visual language, messaging and customer experience across the website and other brand touchpoints.
Yes. Brand guidelines, a logo suite and production-ready asset exports are part of our brand deliverables. Design-system libraries and templates are defined in the agreed scope so your team can apply the identity consistently.
SEO, answer engines & growth
Search visibility connected to useful information and business outcomes.
Our marketing and growth service includes technical SEO audits and fixes, keyword strategy, content roadmaps, landing pages, structured data and reporting. We connect search work to customer journeys and commercial outcomes rather than treating traffic alone as success.
Yes. Our search and content work can address local audiences in Glasgow as well as UK and international demand. The strategy needs to reflect your actual markets, service areas and buyers rather than placing location keywords on every page.
Answer engine optimisation is the practice of making information easier for answer-led search systems and AI assistants to understand and reference. Clear questions, direct factual answers, descriptive headings and accessible page content can help. They do not guarantee an AI citation or placement.
No. Blacktide does not guarantee search rankings. AI-generated answers and citations are also controlled by external systems. We focus on sound technical foundations, useful content, clear business information and transparent measurement rather than promising a position we cannot control.
Some technical improvements can be made in the first weeks, while organic growth typically develops over six to twelve months. Results vary with competition, the website’s starting point, content quality and execution. Paid acquisition and organic search have different timelines.
Yes. Our growth service includes Google and paid social campaigns, creative testing, funnel optimisation and reporting. The channel mix is chosen around your buyers and goals; campaign scope and advertising spend need to be discussed separately.
AI, automation & advisory
Practical improvements, with evidence before expansion.
Our automation service covers workflow mapping, document processing, approvals, routing, data pipelines and connected systems. We start with repetitive work where automation can remove friction and measure its value before expanding.
Yes. We can integrate features such as knowledge search, retrieval, internal copilots and assisted content workflows into existing products and operations. Discovery establishes the data, access, accuracy, cost and monitoring requirements.
We use evaluation, guardrails, monitoring and human review where the workflow calls for it. Accuracy is assessed rather than assumed. Some tasks are better handled by conventional software or a person; we do not recommend AI simply because it is available.
Advisory is useful before major product, architecture or delivery decisions. Blacktide offers discovery sprints, technical reviews, product roadmaps and fractional leadership to help decide what to build, how to build it and whether building is the right choice.
Yes. Our advisory service considers build-versus-buy decisions. We can recommend simplifying, delaying or using an existing tool when that better serves the business, rather than treating custom development as the answer to every problem.
Harbor & vacation rentals
Direct-booking and connected operations for US and European portfolios.
Harbor is Blacktide International’s vacation rental division. It provides direct-booking websites, channel-synced software and guest automations for property managers across the United States and Europe.
Harbor’s integrations include Guesty, Hostaway, Avantio and Rentals United. Share your current property management system and booking workflow with Harbor to discuss the right setup for your portfolio.
A direct-booking website lets guests book with your property business rather than through an online travel agency (OTA). This can reduce reliance on commission-based booking channels; payment processing and other operating costs may still apply.
Harbor is Blacktide’s vacation rental division for property managers across the United States and Europe. Its focus is direct-booking websites, channel-synced software and guest automation, rather than online retail stores or trades websites.
Share your website, number of properties, property locations and whether you use a property management system (PMS) or channel manager. Include the names of those tools and the booking or operational problem you want to solve. The Harbor inquiry form collects these portfolio details.
A direct-booking website provides an owned booking channel; it does not automatically replace every OTA or remove every cost. Payment processing, platform subscriptions and operating costs may still apply. Your channel strategy and integrations should be planned around the portfolio.
Launch, handover & support
What happens when the work is ready to go live.
Launch preparation includes quality assurance, checks across devices, and the analytics and SEO setup relevant to the project. Software work also includes release preparation, monitoring and security considerations. The launch plan is tailored to the agreed system and scope.
Deliverables depend on the engagement. Website projects include the production website, content management training and documentation. Software deliverables include source code, architecture documentation, testing and operational guidance. Your proposal defines the final handover package.
Yes. Ongoing support and optimisation are available after launch. Discuss the level of coverage, maintenance responsibilities and response terms you need so they can be set out in the relevant agreement rather than assumed.
Use the project inquiry form or contact page to send your question. Describe your business, the service you are considering and any relevant website or system. Blacktide does not work with trades or e-commerce brands; other enquiries are assessed against the brief and studio focus.
